IMPLEMENTATION OF PRIORITIZED PROJECTS FROM LED STRATEGY BY GTEDA

  1. Agribusiness Incubator

GTEDA is currently facilitating/pursuing potential investors to establish an agri-business incubator which will focus on Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) development and skill training for agro-processors to create opportunities for beneficiation of existing resources as well as to create new job opportunities.

Potential services for the Incubator can include:

  • Business advisory support
  • Mentorship
  • Finance and administration support services
  • Workshops
  • Shared office space with access to internet, computers, printers and telephones
  • Assistance with market linkages (suppliers and markets).
  1. Farmer Support Facility

GTEDA is currently facilitating/pursuing potential investors to establish a farmer support facility/centre which should be designed to assist farmers during the entire production process. The concept outlines five specific aspects the Centre will focus on to ensure the improvement of quality and production levels of the commodities as well as improving the knowledge and skill level of farmers. The five aspects of the facility concept are:

  1. Input support
  2. Mechanisation support
  3. Facilities
  4. Training and
  5. Market intelligence.

GTEDA is currently in the process of identifying support needed by farmers and analysis and identification of commodities to be supported.

  1. Waste Management Programmes for SMMEs

GTEDA is currently providing support to local SMMEs operating within the waste management and recycling. The main aim of this project is to create youth employment in the Rural areas of GTM through waste management and recycling programmes through which, the communities will be equipped with a skill and will not be employed by the municipality, but rather work for themselves. The main goals of this project are: to promote environmental education and awareness to the communities; To enhanced socio-economic benefits and employment creation; To create sustainable livelihoods through recycling of waste (waste collection & minimization); To support the use of environmentally friendly waste disposal technology; Create and support mechanisms and for the protection of environmental quality; To create the job opportunities for the youth in the rural areas of the GTM area.

4.    PROMOTIONAL EVENTS

GTEDA participates in the planning and hosting of promotional events and exhibitions whereby SMMEs are invited to exhibit and sell their products. Promotional events assist in dissemination of information and providing access to marketing opportunities, networking as well as to attract investment and business opportunities in all sectors of the economy.
